Manchester company ENER-G has opened a new factory to boost production of its combined heat and power (CHP) systems.
The systems, which run on natural gas or
renewable biogas, have seen such a high global demand that the company has trebled its manufacturing capacity over the last two years.
After doubling its production capabilities with a second factory at its Salford base last year, it has now taken over an adjacent building to give it a total of 34,000 square feet of manufacturing space.
The company has increased its production of CHP units by 50%, and is aiming to boost production further by introducing "lean" manufacturing techniques and smarter working practices among its staff.
As well as a training programme for existing staff, with a new training centre now being built on company premises, new jobs will be created, the company said yesterday.
In particular, more service engineers will have to be recruited to expand ENER-G's 90-strong installation and maintenance team.
Derek Duffill, group managing director, said: "ENER-G is a fine example of UK engineering and technological excellence. Our innovative products and services are in demand across the globe - fuelling our ongoing growth and reflected in our turnover of £90 million, which has grown four-fold over the past six years."
ENER-G's product range for CHP units include natural gas systems from 33kW up to 2MW in electrical output, and biogas systems from 30kW up to 1.95MW in electrical output.
The company also offers small ranges in propane-fuelled systems, from 75kW up to 280kW, as well as biodiesel-fuelled systems from 130kW to 385kW in electrical output.
Savings

Production of ENER-G's combined heat and power units in Salford is set to increase by 50%
It claims to have more of its CHP systems installed across the UK and Europe than any other supplier.
As well as various properties on the Royal estate, the systems are in use at hospitals, hotels, leisure centres, supermarkets and factories. ENER-G has installed 120MW worth of CHP units at landfills, where they run on landfill gas, while the technology can also be used in anaerobic digestion facilities to make use of biogas.
Worldwide, ENER-G has 701 employees, including 300 at its Salford head office.
ENER-G is also the parent company of gasification firm Energos, which is based in Warrington and operates energy-from-waste plants on the Isle of Wight, Germany and Norway, and is developing new plants in Scotland, Lincolnshire, Merseyside and Newport in the next 12 months.
